About The University

The Islamic Azad University (IAU) is the world's sixth-largest university. It was approved and ratified by Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 1982 after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. It is a semi-private university system in Iran. The Islamic Azad University Zahedan Branach (IAUZ) is located in Zahedan, established on 12 December 1982, in the center of the Province of Sistan and Balochestan. Zahedan is located near Pakistan and Afghanistan. It was established as a response to the high demand for higher education. Today, it is the largest university within the Province of Sistan and Balochestan. The university receives no financial aid from the government. It is self financed entirely by the fees it receives from the students and is run by a board of trustees. The IAUZ has over 250 faculty members and close to 300 staff. The university has several faculties including Law & Politics, Basic Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Linguistic, Sport, Agriculture and Medicine from undergraduate to post-graduate levels, with wide variety of subjects covering almost every field from social sciences to medicine and from basic sciences to theology. The IAUZ has about 8000 students. Students are studying in more than 70 different subjects in 6 major programs of medical science, science, humanities, engineering, agriculture, and architecture and in four different degrees of undergraduate, graduate, Master and PhD. Until now more than 17000 students are graduated from this university.
